The University of Central Lancashire has just announced its tuition fees for the academic year 2012/13; £9000.
AdvertisementThe news comes after other universities in the north west including Liverpool and Liverpool John Moores universities, Lancaster University and the University of Manchester all confirmed their move to higher fees. UCLan now joins 29 other universities across the country in announcing the maximum possible fees for its students.
Under government regulations, universities raising their fees to this level must prove their credentials in widening their pool of students beyond middle-class teenagers, as judged by the Office for Fair Access. Universities who have not yet announced their future fees policy have until 19 April to do so.
We asked UCLan graduates and current students what they thought of the news, and added it to our coverage of the tuition fee debate so far in Preston.
Below you can see that Blog Preston had the scoop back in February that UCLan were going to charge higher fees, as well as our coverage of student marches in the town centre. We’ve also published the email sent to UCLan students this morning announcing the fee hike in full.
