The streets of Preston are set to be flooded by the sound of pounding trainers in Guild Year.

A series of running events will take place across the city including a special one off Guild Marathon and half marathon.

Thousands of runners will take on a route that will start and finish in the city centre, taking on Penwortham, Cottam, Lea Town, Salwick and Treales in the process.

The city will be shut down for the day as the marathon takes place on Sunday 28th October and registration is already open.

The marathon starts at 9am and entry costs £35, for the half marathon it begins at 10am and is £17. A mini marathon will be run for children. Click here to register for the event or download an entry form.

Guild organisers are planning to put on street entertainers and music to ensure a “fantastic atmosphere.”

Before the marathon the popular Run Preston event will return on Sunday 30th September from 10am, and entry is already open to secure your place.

The 10k event is £12, 5k event is £10 and the fun run is £2 to enter. Click here to enter.

Two other running events will also take place, with the Guild Series Road Race kicking off proceedings on Monday 7th May – a bank holiday. Entry is not yet available.

Finishing off proceedings is the Preston 10 Miler, starting at Hutton Grammar School it takes in Hutton, Longton and Walmer Bridge. No date has been confirmed for the 10 mile race.

Are you planning to take part in any, or all, of the races? Let us know what you think of the marathon in the comments below

Fantastic! I’ve run a couple of half marathons and thought for a couple of years that I ought to try a full one, but hadn’t committed – until I saw this. Registered now, looking forward to it and what better one to do than the Preston Guild! The fireworks in Avenam Park were great at the last Guild, by the way!!

Do you have to do the whole series to get a medal etc. I signed up for the marathon and going to do the run Preston 10k but have read various things about doing the full series (may, sept, oct, nov)

Applied to run the half marathon with hubby and looking forward to running somewhere familiar. Disappointed with the service fee at the end of the transaction as this must equate to thousands of extra pounds for Prestons coffers even after paying the bank charges, as this amounts to a 7% hike in the fee and even banks don’t charge this!!Better just to charge £18 per person inclusive then no annoying, painful amounts at the end.Nearly didn’t complete because of this.Extra charges should be banned as it will put some runners off……

Does anyone know if the marathon course map has been issued? I can’t find it! Pete

Hi Peter. I spoke to someone yesterday who said the route is very close to being finalised. As soon as they issue a map etc we will have it online. Ed

      Thanks Ed. Peter

Entered the first race of the series and was angry to find that after debit card payment had been finalised that there was a “service charge” of £1-65 added to the race fee. No indication about this charge was given anywhere through the registration process, this is a very underhand way of getting extra money. An absolute disgrace!!!!

  • Frustrated runner !

I am trying to register for the marathon, but with no joy as it keeps taking me to the guild homepage. Any tips, or has anyone else had problems?
