A new vets could be opening in Ashton if plans are approved by the council.

Myerscough Veterinary Group who already run 12 surgeries across Lancashire want to open up a branch of MyVets on Blackpool Road.

The plans from the group sgtate they want to provide “high quality, easily accessible and cost effective veterinary services for pet owners” in the area.

The premises at 408 Blackpool Road are current set up for retail but the vets want to convert them to be an animal centre.

The vets group say the opening will be “positive for the community.”

They state: “There will be a positive impact on the community with the provision of a local service open to all animal owners. The practice is involved in a substantial amount of work for pet charities and some of this work will feed through the proposed Ashton branch with benefit to the community.

“There should be no negative impacts; there will be no night-time disturbance of residents since all overnight cases are seen and housed at our 24 hour service A59 Clayton le Dale centre and no animals will be kept overnight or on Sundays at Ashton.”

The plans, which fall in the Tulketh ward, are currently up for consultation. You can view the full plans on the council website. Any comments should be made by email to devcon@preston.gov.uk by Friday 8th June 2012.
