The latest act to be confirmed for an all-day contemporary arts festival can be revealed.
Jojo Townsend will bring her innovative and heartfelt art to the city.
Since losing her sister in December 2011 she has started the ‘Wow Project’ which is a series of art installations taking place in numerous venues and online.
We caught up with Jojo for a chat:
Why are you taking part in MAPS?
I liked the agenda of having art in unusual spaces, my work is all about interaction and being able to do that somewhere unusual has all sorts os possibilities and I think that is really exciting.
What is your act?
My piece is an installation called ‘The Wow Project – Task Eight’ where participants are invited to ‘Think of a message to someone that you can’t bring yourself to say. Write it down. Disguise it anyway you like’.
Where are you from?
Originally Bristol, but I currently live in a very small flat in London.
How long have you been an artist?
Well, I’ve been studying for the last 3 years so shall we say that long?
What do you think/know of the arts scene in Preston?
Truthfully not a lot, so I’m very excited to find out more about it!
Where have you shown work before?
For this project I did research and development at a school in Bristol, so this is only the second outing for this project.
The MAPS Festival takes place at venues across the city on Saturday 8 September as part of the Preston Guild.
