The latest act to be confirmed as taking part in the MAPS Festival, showcasing contemporary art across the city, is Naomi Kendrick.
AdvertisementBased in Manchester, Kendrick is an artist who brings her live-drawing show to Preston.
She draws in time to music and lets the sounds guide her artwork.
Kendrick said: “I am interested in the ways in which we sensorially perceive the world around us and in creating work that offers the audience and myself a ‘full’ experience of something. Drawing and performance currently dominate this exploration.
“I have been collaborating regularly with David Birchall and other musicians for over a year, together we carry out performances, for which
“I respond to live improvised music through drawing. This process, rather than an attempt to translate one another’s feelings or mediums into another art form, is a merging of them. A conversation between us that fluctuates constantly between our solitary and shared experience, and that extends out by osmosis to an audience inviting them to temporarily inhabit, through observation or direct experience, these states for themselves.”
Kendrick is just one of a range of different artists performing at the MAPS Festival, which will see a whole host of performances on Saturday 8 September.
