In our series profiling the latest confirmed acts for new contemporary arts festival MAPS.
AdvertisementThe festival, taking place in Preston on Saturday 8 September, will be a radical mix of comedy, live art and music.
The latest act confirmed is Matt Smith who goes by the name of Four Cats Theatre.
Four Cats takes its name from the Spanish phrase ‘El Quarte Gats’, meaning something will be a failure if only four cats turn up.
It’s a mix of comedy, live art, storytelling and social media and seeks to explore how and why we tell stories.
Smith said of his show: “I guess I’m interested in what’s happened to the Oral storyteller, I don’t think it’s completely vanished it’s just become more diluted. I like mixing the real with the imaginary, Homer’s Iliad is meant to be a history but he throws in plenty of Gods and Monsters.”
Smith graduated from Salford University last year and has since gone on to perform across the North West.
