Council shuts Preston Town Hall for two days to cope with Guild celebrations
All council workers are set to be diverted from normal duties to help ensure the smooth running of the Guild.
The Town Hall will be closed to the public on Monday 3 September and Friday 7 September to cope with the “sheer scale of the Guild events, processions and celebrations”.
Leader of the council, councillor Peter Rankin, said: “Preston Guild happens only once every 20 years, but it is a mammoth undertaking. During the Guild our staff will be working at all hours of the day to ensure the Guild is a major success.
“We’ve had to transfer staff from their normal duties to Guild duties and, as such, the Town Hall will be closed on the 3rd & 7th September.”
The council’s telephone services and website will be available on both days.
