A chance to re-visit a few memories of Preston in 2012.
As we slowly move into 2013 we have time to look back at Preston in 2012. One abiding memory was rain, rain, rain. The Sun did shine though, for an unforgettable two week period in September. That’s when Preston witnessed its biggest, brightest event for 20 years. The hugely popular and successful Preston Guild. Sun shine every day!
The Guild was truly a fantastic occasion. World renowned artists and creative individuals providing Preston people with memories that will live on to the next Guild in 2032. Plus the public and trade processions, the Vintage Ball, the Food Festival, the street celebrations . Everyone seemed to play a part.
But there was more. There was also the first ever Preston marathon, a two-day canal boat festival at Haslam Park, Italian, Lancashire and Christmas markets taking over Friargate and the Flag Market, the Preston Passion on TV, a spectacular Global Rainbow laser light show over Preston, the Riversway Festival, the Queen’s Jubilee, opening the new Discover Preston exhibition in the Harris, entertainment in the City streets at night, the opening of the popular Guild Wheel cycle track, the Olympic Torch carriers, the Caribbean Carnival, the end of Preston Bus Station, celebs in town, the Corporate Games with dragon boat racing at the Docks, fun fairs, fireworks, street art, festive Christmas fun including the big light switch-on and Santa making a special visit to the City and much, much more.
