It sits within the Winckley Square conservation area so permission must be sought from the council.

Mr Connor wishes to demolish the existing two and single storey buildings.

They were gutted by a fire in 2008 and the property is now structurally unstable.

The proposals for turning New Cock Yard back into three single bed apartments and one two-bedroomed apartment state: “The proposal is to restore the fire devastated building and derelict double garage into affordable rental opportunities to provide mixed communities within the heart of the city and within the Winckley Square Conservation Area.”

“The proposal consists of reinstating the former bedsit block into three floors of single bed apartments.

“[It] is an opportunity to restore the site back to its former granduer providing new residential opportunities and high sustainability levels.”

The building was built around 1850 and is currently listed.

It has always been used for residential use, in 1998 it was known as The Cottage and was comprised of bedsits.
