Heightened tension has been reported in many city centre pubs as old rivals Preston North End and Blackpool meet tonight at Deepdale for The League Cup.

Simon Grayson’s Preston take on Paul Ince’s Tangerine Championship side in the first round of the Capital One Cup. This will be the first time the old rivals have met for several years.

The omens are good for Preston as they have won the last two times these sides met in the League Cup.

Both home and away fans, taking their last chance to grab a drink before the big match have made their presence felt. Ahead of the game police have been proactive in assuring the safety of both local and travelling fans. However, there have been unconfirmed reports of trouble around several popular drinking spots. Unofficially we have heard reports of supporters packing out the Old Black Bull and Wetherspoons pubs, with an increased police presence at the Adelphi pub amongst others. There have been no reports of any serious disturbances.

The match will be streamed live on Sky Sports tonight.
