The Alive After Five hospitality awards have seen thousands of Prestonians cast their votes for their favourite nightclub, restaurant and those who made nighttime in the city tick.

The city has retained its Purple Flag award, which marks it out as an excellent city centre for a night out, for three years in a row.

Preston’s Business Improvement District decided to run the awards to recognise those people who run venues and more in the city.

Mark Whittle, of PrestonBID, said: “The success of Preston’s Purple Flag status has been about working together and now we want to celebrate what we have achieved.

“Preston is still the only place in Lancashire to hold the coveted title, which sees us in the same club as huge cities such as Manchester, Oxford and Birmingham.

“All businesses thrive on a bit of competition and I am sure these awards will bring out the best in our night time economy, there is a real excitement amongst the venues.”

The shortlist for the awards was decided by an online public vote.

The winners will be announced at a ceremony on Tuesday 29 October with BBC Radio Lancashire’s John Gillmore hosting it.
