Motorcyclists and cyclists in Lea are being urged to get their bikes coded with special screws to deter thieves.

Officers from Lancashire Police will be at Homebase on Preston Docks from 10am to 4pm on Saturday 26 October.

They will fit the screws to any bike or car which then make it hard for thieves to take the plates for crimes such as petrol station drive offs.

Sergeant Scott Archer says: “The event is an opportunity for people to make sure their valuables are protected and at less risk of being stolen. Whilst the service provided will be done for free, we’re asking members of the public to make a donation towards local charity St Catherine’s Hospice.”

Anyone can also visit with their IMEI, serial or frame numbers of valuable items to have them registered in the National Property Register.
