A proposal to convert the former TSB Bank on Church Street into a Wetherspoons will go before councillors next month.
AdvertisementThe pub giant had lodged plans for the change of use of the building and a major refurbishment.
Council officers have recommended the city council’s planning committee approve the plans.
Five letters of objection were issued raising concerns about the number of pubs already along Church Street.
But planning officers state “the proposal would bring a prominent listed building back into beneficial use, preserving the character and appearance of the Market Place Conservation Area.”
The TSB building was built in the early 1900s and the Wetherspoons plans includes modifying the former boardrooms into function rooms.
The opening hours applied for are 7am to 12.30am Sunday to Wednesday and 7am to 1.30am Thursdays to Saturday.
Wetherspoons already operates one pub in Preston, The Grey Friar which sits on the corner of Friargate and the Ringway.
The plans are available to view on the council website.
The planning committee will meet on Monday 2 December at the Town Hall.
