A new forum has launched for musicians and music fans based in Preston.
AdvertisementP-City was founded a fortnight ago by an anonymous administrator, although the website was built by Paddy Green, of local band Zvilnik.
The person who runs the website, known only as The Admin, told us: “There was plenty of complaining about the scene or lack of scene. It seemed to me that what was missing was any kind of coherent community.
“Facebook can’t do that job – it only ties you to the people and things you choose to see. For a social network, it’s kind of anti-social. A forum can provide that missing element, a bit of serendipity.”
Preston previously had a forum known as Prestone, but it closed several years ago. It was notable for several small spats between different social groups in the city but it was seen as a crucial part of what was viewed as a much healthier music scene.
“Prestone was the right thing in the right place at the right time. Love it or hate it, it was a vital part of the Preston scene history.”
It will be important for the forum to draw in new faces. Some can become cliquey and a big part of P-City’s success will be measured on whether it can draw in younger musicians such as Little Icarus or The Inkhearts.
The Admin said: “At the moment, there are a lot of the old Prestone gang signing up, I think that was unavoidable. I also think that those guys recognise that there is a space that a forum can fill.
“There have been new users, maybe who aren’t used to the forum format. I also may have to do a bit more advertising, get the word out. If the bands join, their fans will follow. Hopefully you showing an interest might nudge a few people our way who might otherwise not bother.”
