We are very sad to report that a Preston legend has died.
Sir Tom Finney has died at the age of 91.
Preston North End announced his death on their official website.
A statement on the club website said: “Preston North End have been informed of the extremely sad news of the passing of Sir Tom Finney.
“Sir Tom was the greatest player to ever play for Preston North End and one of the all time greats for England.
“The thoughts of everyone at the Club, and those connected with it, are with his family at this time.”
He played 433 times for PNE in the league, and a further 40 times in the FA Cup.
He played 76 times for England and scored 30 goals.
Preston city council leader Peter Rankin tweeted: “Sad for us but especially for the Finney family. I’m sure all our thoughts are with them at a very sad time.”
Fans have already begun paying tribute to Sir Tom at the Splash statue outside Deepdale.
