A man is being hunted after a 13-year-old girl was assaulted as she walked home in Cottam.
AdvertisementThe schoolgirl was walking along a path through parkland and recreational ground between Tom Benson Way and Cottam Green shortly before 4pm on Wednesday.
She was approaced from behind by a man who pushed her to the ground.
The girl managed to get away from the man and made it to a nearby house and raised the alarm.
The man ran off towards Cottam Green.
Officers are appealing for information and especially want to speak to a man who walked past the victim in the opposite direction shortly before she was attacked. This potential witness is described as white, muscly and wearing a red top.
The attacker is described as white, medium build, with short brown hair and a pale spotty complexion, possibly with stubble. He was wearing a grey hooded top with the hood pulled down and grey or faded blue jeans.
Detective Insp Jill Johnston, of Preston Police, said: “The motive for this man’s attack is unknown. Fortunately the young girl has only minor injuries as a result of the attack and nothing of value was stolen, although she is clearly traumatised by what has happened to her.
“I would appeal to anyone who may have seen what happened or who recognises the description of this man to get in touch with us. I would make a special plea for the possible witness who walked past the young girl just before she was assaulted to contact us as he could have key information.”
Anyone with information should contact police on 101 quoting log number 0778 of February 26th or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
