Sir Tom Finney is to be remembered in the name of a Preston football team.
AdvertisementBamber Bridge have announced their Irongate ground is to be renamed the Sir Tom Finney Stadium following the PNE legend’s death in February.
The club are planning a special ceremony to mark the occasion during July when they traditionally play Preston North End in a friendly.
Club secretary George Halliwell said: “We have changed our stadium name as a tribute to Sir Tom.
“I can’t believe nobody else has done this, but he was a real favourite down at the club and attended a great number of functions.
“Everyone is pleased to see the stadium named after Sir Tom and it’s a real privilege,
“Who knows? It could lead to bigger things after this.”
The club will also be contributing to a number of Sir Tom’s charities, include the Sir Tom Finney Soccer Development Centre.
