Our recent Facebook banner photo update created some discussion about the exact location.
The picture was taken on the Ashton-on-Ribble section of the old Lancaster Canal in Preston.
The houses shown in the picture are on Shelley Road and the back gardens slope down towards the water.
Most house owners have made a feature of their back garden, turning them into mini-jetties or pubs(!) a few even have boats, as seen in the picture.
It really makes for a pleasant walk along the tow path towards Haslam Park.
The canal at Preston now terminates at Aqueduct Street near to Fylde Road. You can still trace its path into the city alongside University buildings. A little bit of lost Preston history.
It is a surprising fact that many Prestonians do not even know we have a canal.
Do you live by the canal or own one of the houses in our pictures? Let us know in the comments below.
