Lancashire County Council has agreed to refurbish a local youth centre.
Funds have been allocated to improve Ashton Young People’s Centre (formally the Star Youth Club), on Tulketh Crescent, in Ashton-on-Ribble.
The project was original on a list of developments by the previous Council Leader and Cabinet Member for Young People. The youth centre offers a safe place in a fairly deprived neighbourhood of young people in Preston.
The investment addresses dilapidated toilet facilities and a poor general state of decor, flooring and furnishings.
There are plans to completely upgrade the existing kitchen to a modern finish, including a breakfast bar and stools.
The full refurbishment of the toilet facilities costing £16,000, is scheduled to be completed soon. The other works costing £37,500.
Local Councillor David Borrow said: “ I have been pressing for this work since I was elected last May – it will really improve the club and be a great benefit to residents of Ashton.”
