More soldiers are to be housed at Fulwood Barracks.
AdvertisementThe Army has applied for planning permission to add extra buildings at the Watling Street Road site in Fulwood.
Due to a reorganisation of the military there are to be more units based at Preston.
Plans show how the Barracks will expand to include a new accommodation block to house 20 senior non-commissioned officers.
A second block is to be built next to the existing officers mess. This would house 12 senior officers and eight junior officers.
One of the current grade-II listed barracks buldings is to be refurbished at the same time, increasing the number of bed spaces.
Previous plans for the barracks had included the demolition of the existing officers mess, but this has now been ruled out.
If approved, the new buildings should be in place by April 2015 at the latest.
The full plans can be viewed on the city council website.
