Yunus Suleman collects Spirit of the Games award for badminton

A celebration of the Guild City Games has taken place.

The event sees thousands of particpants from local businesses and organisations compete in nine sports.

The awards night recognised those for fair play and entering into the spirit of the City Games.

Mayor of Preston, Councillor Nick Pomfret, said: “It’s an honour to be here today and I’d like to thank all the businesses involved, as well as those behind the scenes, for making the Games another success.

“Preston is a very proud city and events such as these bring the business community together. Carry on practising your sports in readiness for next year.”

The event is organised by Preston City Council, the University of Central Lancashire, Shout Network and the Chamber of Commerce.

Jimmy Khan, head of sport and leisure at Preston City Council said: “The celebration event was a fantastic opportunity to recognise the achievements of the unsung heroes of the Games. It wasn’t about winners; it was about those who demonstrated the values of the games – such as fair play.”

Awards handed out at the event were:

Rugby: Barbarian’s (Fair Play) and Alex’s Team (Spirit of the Games)
Badminton: Alisdair Boyle (Fair Play) and Yunus Suleman (Spirit of the Games)
Table Tennis: Mike Charters (Fair Play) and Martin Shaw (Spirit of the Games)
Netball: BAE (Fair Play) and UCLan (Spirit of the Games)
Running: Karen Mansfield (Spirit of the Games)
Rounder’s: Preston City Council (Fair Play) and Stone Create (Spirit of the Games)
Football: BAE (Fair Play) and John Turner Construction Group (Spirit of the Games)
Golf: Paul Morley, AB InBev (Fair Play) and Suzie Harulow, Stone Create (Spirit of the Games)
Dragon Boat: OBAS UK (Fair Play) and Caritas Care (Spirit of the Games)
