The Royal Lancashire Show looks set for a return just 12 miles from Preston.
The last full show was held back in 2008, although a much smaller event was held in 2012 near Blackburn.
A huge event, one of the biggest and oldest of its kind in the UK, the Royal Lancashire Show has suffered due to poor weather and lack of funds over the years. It folded in 2009
The 2008 event should have taken place at Barton just north of Preston but was cancelled due to the weather.
The proposed new show will be held at Salesbury Hall, near Ribchester on August 15 and 16 next year.
The Royal Lancashire Agricultural Society, with new offices at Manor Court, Ribchester, are looking for stewards to hep organise the event.
David Marriott, secretary of the Royal Lancashire Agricultural Society, said: “We are thrilled that the show is set to return next year. It’s going to be hard work but the signs at the moment are very encouraging.
We have had meetings with Ribble Valley Borough Council, Lancashire County Council, and the police and we have found a way around the problem of access onto the showground.
Volunteers are already signing up and everyone we have spoken to have given us the thumbs-up. We feel that if we get the stewards for the event then the show will be on.”
