Just before last Christmas, Korova Arts Cafe & Bar hosted former Inspiral Carpets star, Tom Hingley. Tom makes a welcome return on Sunday 6 July, as well as being supported by a local act he was a boyhood hero to.
AdvertisementTom parted company with the Inspiral Carpets in 2011, where for 22 years 1989- 2011 he sang on all their chart hits.
Now going solo, Tom has released 2 albums through Pledge music, one album ‘Sand’ is an acoustic album which ‘starts with a hear beat and ends with a string quartet’ – his first album release since leaving Inspiral Carpets. The second album, the electric guitar paper album is a punkier grittier experience.
Support on the night is provided by excellent local band The Delatours, who’s lead singer, Lee Johnson, is a tutor at Cardinal Newman College.
Growing up in Atherton, Greater Manchester Johnson was inspired by the music that came out of Manchester throughout the 80s and early 90s such as The Smiths, The Fall, New Order, Stone Roses, Happy Mondays and of course Inspiral carpets.
Lee remembers ‘This is How it Feels’ being played on a ghetto blaster in a school science lesson in 1991, and says his favourite ‘Top of the Pops’ performance of all time is the Inspiral Carpets performing ‘I Want you’ with the legendary Mark E Smith.
Lee’s delighted to be supporting the voice of the Inspirals.
Tom Hingley; Solo Acoustic Concert will be at Korova Arts Cafe & Bar on the 6 July.
