At the eleventh hour on the eleventh day of the eleventh month the people of Preston came together to remember their heroes. Many people gathered on Preston’s Market Place to show their respect to the fallen during both world wars and conflicts thereafter.
It was a remarkable sight to see so many showing so much effort to be there, even if it was only their lunch break or just a little time out from shopping or those who had left their homes to purposely attend the solemn occasion. During the two minutes period of silence there was an air of poignancy across the whole Market Place with a notable quietness that you would only normally experience in the early hours of the morning. It was quite apparent that all in attendance took the matter seriously and truly showed their loyalty to those who sacrificed their lives.
