A community church is applying to create a permanent home in the centre of Preston.
AdvertisementLongton Community Church wants to convert the former Halfords garage in Ribbleton Lane near Preston Prison into a place of worship.
The church has grown since it was founded in 1995 to have a regular congregation of between 300 and 400 people.
A statement from M Jones Planning Consultancy on behalf of the church said: “Longton Community Church has a proven track record of being a church for all the community regardless of their individual faith. They also have a strong community ethos that is delivered in tangible ways to the local community.
“The loss of an out of centre retail unit and its replacement with a community facility in such a highly accessible location raises no planning issues.”
The church currently uses a variety of venues across Preston and South Ribble to host its services.
The full plans for the church can be found on the city council website.
Anyone wanting to comment on the plans can do so on the council website or by emailing devcon@preston.gov.uk quoting reference 06/2015/0326 by Saturday 30 May.
