On Wednesday 20 May 2015 at 6.00 pm the office of Mayor of Preston City was transferred from Councillor Nick Pomfret to Councillor Margaret McManus. As Mayor of Preston, Councillor Margaret McManus will be a figurehead for the city, act as chairman at council meetings, represent Preston at civic events and be officially recognised as Preston’s first citizen.
The Mayor Making Ceremony began with prayers read by Fr Timothy Lipscomb and then the formal handover of the Mayoral robes and chain along with various other official articles. Before handing over the Mayoral role to Margaret McManus, Nick Pomfret reflected upon his Mayoral duties over the past year and said that it was an honour and a pleasure to have served Preston City and wished Margaret McManus every success in her new role. He also thanked his Mayoress, Barbara Pomfret, for her undying support throughout his term of office and she was presented with a bouquet of flowers.
Councillor John Collins was made as Deputy Mayor and will be the new Mayor of Preston City next year.
