Preston has just put on the biggest Big Lunch the city has ever seen. In fact it was showcased amongst the top in the country. The community came together to share free food donated by Waitrose and to enjoy the full range of entertainment on offer. There was everything from the Snow Sisters, Blowjangles dance band, local singer Dani Gallagher and local children’s dance schools, to 32′ bouncy castles, food stalls, sweet shops, raffles and tombolas.
Waitrose and Halifax have worked brilliantly over the past month to fundraise enough to support the event, including a Waitrose team auction, allowing the organisers to carry out bag pack collections in store and Halifax bake sales in local branches. Waitrose then provided free food for around 500 people, whilst Halifax brought over 40 volunteers along from the local area to ensure everything ran smoothly.
Any proceeds from the day will be split between Armed Forces Group, Dig In North West and the Space Centre, so not only did everyone have an amazing family fun day, but local community organisations benefited too.
The organisers are already looking at what next year’s event might look like!
