Hundreds of music fans packed onto the Flag Market on Saturday to see a range of performances throughout the day, with the event significantly boosting Preston’s profile.
The twitter presence of the event, and of BID Preston, saw over a million people worldwide view the communications surrounding the family day out promoting the city and the entertainment on offer.
Former X factor finalist Ray Quinn was the headline attraction, with his set attracting many screaming teenage girls.
He said, “It has been an amazing day in Preston today.
“It was an amazing turnout and it was lovely to be here. I hope to come back again.”
FamilyFest saw 4,000 visitors this year, an 11 percent increase on last year, with songs heard throughout the day as well as entertainment, food and fairground rides for all the family.
Also performing were girl group Tiger Heart, singer songwriters Bailey McConnell, Ella Shaw, Henry Gallagher, Matt Fitzgerald and Amy Jo Clough. Mr Zip also gave an up tempo performance.
Mark Whittle, BID Manager, speaks fondly of the attention the city is attracting, “The Twitter revolution has given rise to a fantastic promotional tool that, when used correctly, can really help get your name out there.
“Not for the first time, we found Twitter to be a great platform for us to raise the profile of Preston as a city that is going places and somewhere that people should want to come and visit because they will always be made welcome.”
Preston Guild Hall were also supporting the event. Richard Simkin, head of operations said,“This is exactly the sort of event we are keen to support, providing something for the whole family, and it was a great day.
“We enjoy a great relationship with BID as they are doing a great deal to raise the profile and image of Preston and this free event was further evidence of that.”
