United Utilities have accepted that a large compensation bill will be headed their way over the contamination of North West drinking water.
AdvertisementMany homes in Preston and across Lancashire are still without clean running water after cryptosporidium was found in the supply earlier this month.
However warnings are now being lifted in some areas. You can find out more about that here.
Locals are being told to boil water and let it cool before using, with many resorting to buying large amounts of bottled water.
As it stands, the payouts are estimated to lie at £15m and the company has stressed to the LEP that customers will not receive a price increase to foot the bill.
United Utilities are assuring customers that everything is being done to solve the problem, “We are continuing to focus on returning water supplies to normal as quickly as possible. We will then be contacting customers who have been affected to explain what we intend to do by way of compensation, as soon as possible.
“We will look at businesses who have been significantly affected on a case-by-case basis.”
