Roadworks on the A582 in Penwortham are set to resume after a legal wrangle about a pub beer garden was resolved.
AdvertisementThe Brown Hare pub was due to lose part of its outdoor space as Lancashire County Council widens a section of the A582 as it approaches the Broad Oak roundabout.
Pub owners Marston’s will see a new retaining wall constructed by the county council as part of the deal.
The dispute had threatened to derail the proposal to make the A582 dual carriageway from its junction with the M65 through to Preston city centre.
Phill Wilson, City Deal project manager, said: “We’re pleased that everything now has been resolved and we’re now looking forward to creating extra capacity on this important route.
“There could be some disruption to people’s journeys while this work is carried out, and we hope that people will bear with us. The extra capacity on the road will make it easier for people to get around.”
The roadworks at the Broad Oak roundabout and Cop Lane are now expected to be completed by Christmas as work resumes on Monday 21 September.
Paperwork outlining the entire dual carriageway route is currently with county council highways and planning chiefs for approval before a full planning application is submitted in the coming months.
The A582 works are part of the £434million City Deal project which is funding major infrastructure work and new homes in Preston and South Ribble.
