There is still serious congestion on the Penwortham bypass following the accident this morning that caused the road to be closed for much of the day.
The incident happened at around 10.15am this morning and resulted in two people being trapped in cars and rescued by the fire service using a hearth kit.
Their injures have been described as serious by police but it has been confirmed that there were no fatalities. The damage is said to have left the cars unrecognisable.
The road closures in place have resulted in long delays throughout Penwortham.
