A look inside Lancashire’s biggest recycling plant
3rd, February 2011 by Ramzy AlwakeelIt’s a rubbish time of year for bin collections. Dead Christmas trees; cards and wrapping paper; broken toys and an unused exercise bike that reminds you of failed New Year’s resolutions past. January’s news is awash with garbage: councils and locals battle tides of waste that engulf our bins and our streets. But not everyone’s making a stink. The plant is home to a variety [...]

Introducing: The Preston Social
17th, January 2011 by Joseph StashkoThe Preston Social is a forthcoming bi-monthly event in Preston, Lancashire, designed to bring together those interested in social and digital media from the local area to learn, teach and meet each other. Similar events have become well established in both Birmingham and Manchester, and we feel that there’s no reason why we can’t do the same for Preston. The city has a small but [...]

Feature: Local food in Lancashire
6th, December 2010 by Joseph StashkoLocally sourced food has become a hot topic in recent years. As people become more conscious about what they eat and how far it’s travelled to get to their table, the organic label and the notion of something being produced on an independent basis has begun to appeal more and more to the public. Inevitably London receives the bulk of coverage when it comes to [...]

EDL & UAF Demonstrations – What the bloggers said
30th, November 2010 by Joseph StashkoThe demonstrations on Saturday provoked a lot of thought from many people. We saw reactions on Facebook, on Twitter and on people’s blogs. I’ve collected together some posts from people who had a range of views on the demonstrations. Reni Eddo-Lodge said ‘an invisible, suffocating feeling of fear blanketed the streets. It was easy to feel intimidated by groups of white men with black scarves [...]

Train users can rejoice with caution
30th, November 2010 by Danny LeeDepending on your feelings for the railways, users of train services from Preston will become winners, and almost certainly losers. Behind the scenes a lot has been happening, especially over the last three weeks. The Department for Transport (DfT) have submitted proposals for a new timetable in 2012 for the new yet-to-be-tendered operator of the West Coast Main Line (WCML). Plans are in place for [...]

28th, November 2010 by Joseph StashkoWe had a lot of photographers documenting yesterday’s demonstrations in the town centre. Below is an audio slideshow that should give you an accurate depiction of what the demonstrations were like. Tomorrow I’ll be posting some edited [...]
