Inevitably, the old club vs country row could escalate for PNE boss, Darren Ferguson with the Lillywhite’s in action on Tuesday 10th against Stockport in the Carling Cup. read article »

Preston’s best view? Beautiful Broadgate

View from BroadgateThe days are drawing longer, the air is growing warmer and the flowers are blossoming brighter. Ah yes, ladies and gentlemen, it appears spring is creeping back upon us.

Spring does a lot of brilliant things; it sends the first tantalising smells of early-evening barbecues  into the air, it prompts the birds to chirp with a little more cheer, and, of course, it strives to show some wonderful and beautiful parts of  Preston in all their splendid glory. read article »

Birds, Bees & Black Leopards

The First Butterfly of the Year by Tony WorrallIn my last article I gave ideas as to how to create a wildlife oasis in ones very own back garden and I was pleased to hear some of the success stories but now we are reaching the time of year when a great variety of birds will abandon city life and head off to a more rural surrounding. Yes, it’s the breeding season and it’s all beginning to happen out there.

Make a Mark – a Chat with Moot.

ship_wall_8_800Local photographers are captivated by The Ship Inn’s mural wall, the ever changing artwork is eye catching and inspirational. On a grey day in Preston the colours break up the monotony of the landscape, it’s a great surprise to discover a new piece of artwork there. I wanted to find out more, quizzed Chris Moot – one of the artists behind the wall and discovered he has a lot of exciting projects on the horizon. A fledging clothing label MakeMake to be launched next month and the Shakedown Project amongst others. Read on…

The Sound of the Underground

Dr Hoffmann

Dr Hoffmann aka Norbert Papp spent the first half of the new millennium building a reputation as one of the most sought after events promoters in Hungary, his renowned Techno nights pulling in crowds of over a thousand people per night. In 2005 after a series of unfortunate events he left Hungary for the UK and thought he had turned his back on the music scene for good. Two years later he rediscovered his passion for music. A radio production course at Preston FM inspired his ground breaking foray into radio with his electronic dance music show, the Blind Spot.

The Beauty of Lancashire at Spring Time

Rambling along a lane near Scorton

A great deal of us long to be somewhere else, maybe on a tropical beach or possibly sitting in the shade of a harbour a cafe, hiding away from the Mediterranean sun whilst sipping a long cool drink, but these are luxuries that come very rarely and also at a cost. Fifteen or so years ago I found myself flying over the North West of England on my way to a Caribbean Island known as the Dominican Republic. It was a fourteen hour flight in miserable cramped conditions and to be perfectly frank, not worth it. Upon my return; and suffering from a major tummy bug, I vowed never to try it again and dedicate more of my time to exploring the countryside and the wildlife that surrounds Preston.
