Angry local campaigners rallied against the planned closure of the Avondale Unit at the Flag Market on Saturday. The rally, planned by Save the Avondale For Everyone (SAFE), protested against the mental health unit’s planned closure in December by the Lancashire Care (NHS) Foundation Trust (LCFT).

Mission Church to be replaced by student flats
A 13-storey block of student flats will replace the Mission Church in Preston City Centre, a planning committee has confirmed. The flats will include a purpose-built church, with 11 storeys of student accommodation above it.

Fire at Mick’s Curry Pot
A gas explosion triggered a fire at Mick’s Curry Pot takeaway on Friargate this afternoon. The fire, caused by a malfunction with a deep fat fryer, swiftly prompted approximately fifty 999 calls, the first of which was received at 3:43 pm.
