The Fishwick Bottoms nature reserve will play host to the magical experience of the dawn chorus this Saturday 24th April and Preston’s park rangers are encouraging people to come along and enjoy the experience.

AND Festival arrives in Preston

Abandon Normal Devices (AND) Festival rolls into Preston this weekend with a programme of events kicking off with Simon Faithfull’s Fake Moon (see below) and finishing up with an inflatable cinema and an art/science experiment in an ice cream van! The travelling new media and art festival is landing in locations across the north-west and this weekend it’s Preston’s turn. Here are the dates & times for your diary.
New Exhibition: Recent Findings
Head down to the Harris Museum & Art Gallery this Saturday as it launches Recent Findings, a new exhibition and British premiere of current work by artist Simon Faithfull. Faithfull works predominantly in drawing, video and installation, using different technologies to record his surroundings.The show combines new work Faithfull has shown in Germany, France and New York but have yet to be shown in the UK.
Former Odeon (New Vic) Action Group Meeting
An action group has been set up with a vision to revive the old Odeon cinema on Church Street. The Former Odeon (New Vic) Action Group are holding their first meeting this Saturday 20th March at The Convent – rear of St Walburge’s Church at 2pm.
Preston Reggae Festival
Local dub poet Prince Marley stopped by the Preston FM studio yesterday to chat about his poetry and hopes for the Preston Reggae Festival, planned for this summer.
Turn up, tune in & donate!
Two local bands join forces on Thursday 11th March to raise much needed funds for the Green Gecko Project, a charity based in Siem Reap, Cambodia. The organisation runs a school and safe haven for local street children. A place they can eat, wash, learn and play. Playing on the night are tropical popsters Coco Shackle and the brilliant Boy Del Mundo. The night starts at 7.30pm at the Ship Inn, Fylde Road Preston. Entry – Free. Donations welcome.

New York’s angriest yodelling banjo player at The Continental

“New York’s angriest yodelling banjo player”, one Curtis Eller, will be dropping in on Preston’s Continental on Thursday 4th March as part of his brief UK tour. Curtis is a dynamic solo performer with a huge cult following who sings about, amongst many other things, pigeon racing, performing elephants and John Wilkes Booth.
