Preston pet of the week: Finney

4th, February 2012 by

This week’s pet of the week is a devoted dog called Finney. He follows his owner Dave Carr everywhere. Dave’s walks with Finney have spawned the popular Preston Walkies blog. So here’s a bit more about Finney by Dave: I don’t normally describe Finney, our five year old English Springer Spaniel, as a pet. I’d describe him as a companion, always there, always listening, always [...]

Roe Deer Spotted Close to Fylde Road

10th, May 2011 by

Yesterday evening myself and my young son spotted a young deer bounding across the play area on Maudland Bank, behind UCLAN’s Media Factory. It was an amazing sight to see a wild animal within such a heavily populated area. As it sprang off in the direction of Fylde Road I wondered if sightings of deer were common within Preston and if we see it again [...]

A look inside Lancashire’s biggest recycling plant

3rd, February 2011 by

It’s a rubbish time of year for bin collections. Dead Christmas trees; cards and wrapping paper; broken toys and an unused exercise bike that reminds you of failed New Year’s resolutions past. January’s news is awash with garbage: councils and locals battle tides of waste that engulf our bins and our streets. But not everyone’s making a stink. The plant is home to a variety [...]
