Well, the time of year for dashing about frantically in an attempt to find or do something quite romantic for a loved one may have gone but who needs Saint Valentine to pull back his bow and tell us what to do or where to go?
Make a Mark – a Chat with Moot.
Local photographers are captivated by The Ship Inn’s mural wall, the ever changing artwork is eye catching and inspirational. On a grey day in Preston the colours break up the monotony of the landscape, it’s a great surprise to discover a new piece of artwork there. I wanted to find out more, quizzed Chris Moot – one of the artists behind the wall and discovered he has a lot of exciting projects on the horizon. A fledging clothing label MakeMake to be launched next month and the Shakedown Project amongst others. Read on…

As you may already be aware I’m very keen to have a whacking great, fabulously equipped play area in Preston. Similar to Withy Grove but for us city siders, well our kids. A place for children of all ages, from tiny tots to teens, with facilities for able bodied and disabled children to play.

Dr Hoffmann aka Norbert Papp spent the first half of the new millennium building a reputation as one of the most sought after events promoters in Hungary, his renowned Techno nights pulling in crowds of over a thousand people per night. In 2005 after a series of unfortunate events he left Hungary for the UK and thought he had turned his back on the music scene for good. Two years later he rediscovered his passion for music. A radio production course at Preston FM inspired his ground breaking foray into radio with his electronic dance music show, the Blind Spot.
Set in the depths of dark humoured realism, Tales from the Blackjack took its audience on a journey into the profound lives of several characters, all of which were played by local actor Alex Moran.

Community policing, street cleaning and green space are just some of the issues up for discussion at the latest round of area forums, which kick off with the Western Area Forum on Thursday 4th March.

“New York’s angriest yodelling banjo player”, one Curtis Eller, will be dropping in on Preston’s Continental on Thursday 4th March as part of his brief UK tour. Curtis is a dynamic solo performer with a huge cult following who sings about, amongst many other things, pigeon racing, performing elephants and John Wilkes Booth.

The alpine ski mural inside Pizzaland? Queuing all the way around the corner of the Odeon cinema in town and wondering whether you were going to get in? To brighten up the gloomy weather I bring you a ray of nostalgia…

A great deal of us long to be somewhere else, maybe on a tropical beach or possibly sitting in the shade of a harbour a cafe, hiding away from the Mediterranean sun whilst sipping a long cool drink, but these are luxuries that come very rarely and also at a cost. Fifteen or so years ago I found myself flying over the North West of England on my way to a Caribbean Island known as the Dominican Republic. It was a fourteen hour flight in miserable cramped conditions and to be perfectly frank, not worth it. Upon my return; and suffering from a major tummy bug, I vowed never to try it again and dedicate more of my time to exploring the countryside and the wildlife that surrounds Preston.

Random yet fun post! Thought I’d play town planner for the day & list what I’d like to see in Preston’s city centre…Here’s my personal Top 10…
1. A whacking great big kid’s play area, on the scale of Withy Grove Park Play area in Bamber Bridge, with a skate park, BMX ramps, fountains, picnic tables & cafe for families.
2. An independent cinema.
3. Cultural quarter with subsidised artist’s workshops, offices, an exhibition space and shop.
4. Tramlines, cycle routes & zero traffic.

Bumped into Sam and Dawn from Screaming Theatre today and beckoned them into the studios of Preston FM for a chat.
