Police puzzled after animal remains found in Ashton Park

Police are appealing for information after the remains of two deer and two pheasants were found in Preston over the weekend. The remains were found dumped in a plastic bag at Ashton Park, near the recycling bins in the car park. The Ruffs Dog Show took place in Ashton Park on Saturday, and was a great day out for puppies and dogs of all shapes and sizes. The day included included micro chipping and dog welfare advice, and some great doggy competitions and prizes, and Rebecca Ward took some photos for us on the day.

Preston’s parks celebrating National Tree Week

Ashton Park Rangers led a guided walk through the park in celebration of National Tree Week. Mike Ashmore and Steve Smith had originally planned to hold a community tree planting event. This would have run on from their participation in the BBC’s attempt to plant one million trees in an hour last year. Unfortunately the minus seven degree conditions put a stop to any planting. Moor Park to get gym upgrade

Moor Park is set to be given an adidas makeover, with the installation of Preston’s second adiZone outdoor gym. The plans were put to Preston City Council’s planning committee last Monday, and were approved, providing English Heritage had no objections.

Despite the weather’s best efforts, it failed to disrupt proceedings and it failed to dampen the spirits of the residents around Ashton Park as they celebrated the opening of a new outdoor gym yesterday. The Red Arrows caused a stir in Ashton Park yesterday. But it wasn’t their famous flying display up in the air, as several pilots from their display team made a swift visit on Vespa scooters as they travelled from Lands End to John O’Groats on day 2 of their four day charity ride.

I moved away from Preston over 10 years ago, but when I lived there, I was a big fan of Avenham & Miller Park. In those days my park visits were all about having a stroll and switching off, or else were about getting some picturesque running miles in, and avoiding pounding the tarmac.

The Preston City Council Central Area Forum revealed on Thursday 29th January 2009 that Ashton Park has been chosen as the location for a brand new skate park.
