If you’re expecting a baby on the 1st January you may get a little more than you bargained for, as organisers of the 2012 Preston Guild are looking for the first Guild baby.

Royal Preston Hospital will see the first newborn welcomed in the early hours of New Year’s Day secure their place in history.

The baby will be recognised with free merchandise and a film crew will be on hand to record the first moments of the Guild babies.

The crew then hope to track the progress of the babies as they grow up in 2012.

All babies born in the Guild year will be celebrated as “sons of daughters of the Guild”, according to Guild director Stella Hall.

A certificate will be given to the parents of every child who is born at Royal Preston Hospital during the Guild year.
