Your Prescap, the community arts charity based in the city centre, has closed its doors after 27 years of delivering its mission of supporting local artists and creatives. Preston FM will continue to broadcast independently.
In a statement, Sue Robinson, Chair of the board of trustees, said: “It’s been a tough decision to make, and the Board is sorry that there will be redundancies.
“Our workers have put a huge amount of energy and commitment into the company and the community it serves, but we hope that new ideas, partners and solutions may come forward over the next few weeks to ensure the charity’s mission continues in some form.”
In the last 3 years, Your Prescap has employed 94 local artists and raised over £1.2m in investment for local people, but the “difficult economic world” of the past few years has made it tough for the charity to continue with its mission.
Blog Preston worked with Prescap in 2011 on the NESTA Community Challenge, a project that brought community journalism workshops and mentoring to Ribbleton, Deepdale and St Matthew’s.
