Preston’s nightlife has been rated as one of the best in the country for the second year in a row.
The city centre has been earmarked for recognition in the Purple Flag awards – which seek to reward cities for their diverse clubs, pubs and bars.
Judges look for a mix of venues including clubs, cocktail bars, real ale pubs and even bingo.
Jessica Toomey, from Frog & Bucket comedy club and part of the team who led the bid for the Purple Flag, said: “I never doubted that Preston would get this accreditation again – Preston’s nightlife is brilliant. It’s vibrant, varied, safer than it’s ever been and the last year has seen massive investment in Preston’s night time businesses.
“The Purple Flag Group is planning a week of parties later in the year to celebrate what we’re all about and to introduce Preston’s nightlife to an even wider range of people. I hope to see you there.”
To win a Purple Flag the cities venues must show there is responsibility for the wellbeing of revellers, the centre is easy to get around and has a plan to improve it.
Other towns and cities winning the award include Manchester, Liverpool, Belfast, Oxford and Birmingham.
