In Pictures: The Beauty of the Bus Station

Love it or loathe it, Preston Bus Station stirs up contrasting emotions.

A similarly ‘brutalist’ building, the BDP’s Halifax HQ, has recently been listed by Architecture Minister Ed Vaizey so maybe opinion is changing.

Unfortunately, while Halifax can afford the upkeep of the newly listed building, Preston Council admits it cannot afford to continuing financing the Bus Station (and car park).

Maybe it’s because we don’t see the building in the right light – quite literally!

Recent photos have not shown the controversial building in the best light, often depicted in stark or grungy black and white. So, while the Sun was high in the sky, and that has not happened very often recently, I tried to capture a few more cheery, bright images.
