Preston’s Crown Court has again been the centre of a media scrum today as actor William Roache took the stand.
Mr Roache, who played Ken Barlow in Coronation Street, is accused of five counts of indencent assault and two counts of rape involving five girls aged between 11 and 16.
The 81-year-old has denied the charges and declined to speak to the media as he left court.
There has been a heavy media and police presence and around the courts as the trial begins.
It follows the high-profile case of police-killer Dale Cregan in 2013.
Tony Worrall captured these images as the trial began.
The trial is expected to last for around four weeks.
