Lancaster author Jo Baker will be at Waterstones bookstore in Preston to discuss and sign her new novel Longbourn on 30th March.
Her new novel provides an alternative angle to Pride and Prejudice and was reviewed by The Guardian as ‘A triumph’.
Jo Baker was born in Lancaster and educated at Oxford and at Queen’s University, Belfast, where she completed a PhD on the work of the Anglo-Irish writer Elizabeth Bowen. She wrote and published her first book, Offcomer, in 2001. She has written for BBC Radio 4 and was Artistic Director of the Belfast Literary Festival. She lives in Belfast with her husband, the playwright and screenwriter Daragh Carville, and their son Daniel.
In Longbourn Jo takes you beyond the drawing rooms of Jane Austen’s classic—into the overlooked domain of the housekeeper and kitchen maid and the daily particulars faced by the lower classes in Regency England. She creates a vivid, fascinating, fully realized world that is wholly her own. Pride and Prejudice was only half the story.
Come and meet Jo and get your copy signed.
