Preston is on the map again thanks to BBC TV show Caught Red Handed.
Presented by Dom Littlewood the programme looks at the clever new methods the police and public are using to catch criminals.
Episode 18 features Thomas Green, a one man crime wave and one of the most prolific and brazen burglars that Preston has ever seen
Green robbed newsagents, an Italian restaurant, fast-food joints and featured in the show – the Cash-in-a-Dash shop on Church Street.
He quickly became Preston’s most wanted man – and shopkeepers most unwanted!
Police eventually arrested Green, who stole an estimated £22,000 in total and in November 2013 he was found guilty of 12 offences, sentenced to a jail term of 2years and 8 months.
The people of Preston glad he is now behind bars.
Det Insp Warren Atkinson, of Preston police, said: ‘Thomas Green can only be described as a one man crime spree.
‘His crimes have been committed mainly against commercial premises but also caused staff distress and inconvenience.
‘He is a career criminal and one of the city’s most prolific burglars. As he got more desperate he became less and less concerned about CCTV.
‘It is great news for traders and residents that he will be off Preston’s streets for some time.’
