WoodenSpoons Theatre presented the wonderful Debra Taylor and Carol Caine who played the parts of Preston’s suffragettes Edith Rigby and Patty Mayor at the Harris Museum yesterday. This was one of the events to celebrate International Women’s Day held on 7th and 8th March 2014.
AdvertisementBoth ladies excelled in their respective roles and delighted their audience with tales of the early suffragettes who fought for women’s rights and ‘Annie’ the young mill girl from Preston whose portrait was painted by artist Patty Mayor.
Other events were held on the same day at the Harris which included ‘I’m a Scientist, Talk to me!’ demonstrations by female scientists from UCLan and a talk on domestic violence by Valerie Wise, the Chief Executive of Preston Domestic Violence Services.
