Linda Moon has admitted that she lied about having terminal cancer.
The Preston North End fan gave an interview to Rock Fm (below) after rumours began to circulate over the weekend with screenshots of messages from her brother Graham Moon among them.
She said: “It came out as cancer and it all just spiralled out of control and I couldn’t get out of it.”
Moon is instead suffering from a vascular disease that affects blood and collagen.
In the interview she expresses her regret for not correcting people sooner when they began to say she was suffering from terminal cancer.
Stories in the LEP and on the Mail Online showed that her stomach had been growing at an alarming rate, which was said to be a symptom of bowel cancer.
Moon said: “It’s not a nice thing to do to people. All I can do is sincerely apologise for that.
“It’s not nice to know what’s being said about me. But I understand why they’re doing it and why they’re saying it.”
Preston North End have given their support to Linda Moon during her period of illness.
Players have visited her in hospital and tweeted their support following play-off victories. They had also given shirts and match balls which will now be returned.
“I love my club and I always have done. I’m gutted that I’ve hurt a lot of people involved in the club.”
Moon has further plans to apologise to Preston North End and her family are urging her to seek help.
The reaction to the news has mostly negative however some have specified that they will not be joining in with any “lynching”.
