A 21-year-old man has been arrested following an assault on a schoolgirl in Preston.

Preston Police were called to an alleyway between College Court and Ripon Street in the Plungington area on Friday 12 June at 4.15pm.

A 14-year-old girl is understood to have been attacked with a baseball bat, receiving blows to her head and body.

The girl was taken to hospital and discharged.

A police spokesman said they had arrested the man, 21, of no fixed address, on suspicion of section 18 – wounding with intent and he remains in custody.

She said: “This was a terrifying ordeal for the young girl involved and it is fortunate that her injuries were not more serious.”
