Run Preston 2015: Helen Clitheroe to fire starting gun

Preston runners will be put on their marks by a former European athletics champion for the start of Run Preston.

Helen Clitheroe is to fire the gun when the 10k race gets underway on the Flag Market.

Clitheroe, a Prestonian, won European Indoor Gold over 3000m in 2011 and a Commonwealth Games Bronze over 1500m in 2002.

Run Preston organisers said: “Helen has proudly represented her country at the Olympics, World Championships, Commonwealth Games and European Championships.

“Hopefully we can twist her arm to run the streets of Preston with you all on the day.”

The 10k and 5k runs take on a route through the city centre and down into Avenham Park on Sunday 27 September.

A 2k Fun Run also takes place in Avenham Park on the day to raise money for local charity Heartbeat.
