Moor Lane where the IQ Kopa student accommodation is situated

A female student studying at the University of Central Lancashire has died.

Preston Police were called to the IQ Kopa halls of residence in Moor Lane in the University area of Preston.

Security staff had contacted the police around 8pm on Saturday saying a student had died.

A police spokesman said the death was being treated as unexplained and an investigation is underway.

He said no details of the student, who is a foreign national, had been released as they were still trying to contact her family overseas.

Students at the halls reported a police presence until 1am on Sunday as officers continued their investigations. The C block of the halls was understood to have been cordoned off.
